About Us

Katie & Hallie

Welcome to Basically Grounded!

We are Katie Tomasini and Hallie Warner – two middle sisters living 1,000 miles apart living very different lives, yet experiencing a lot of the same challenges all women face. We discuss our health, Real Housewives, relationships, family dynamics, Enneagram numbers, pets, career moves, and more. No holds barred. Multiple times a week. Sometimes these weekly calls turn daily in times of real turmoil or excitement, but they always fortify us to move forward with whatever problem we’re facing. A listening ear, a fresh perspective, or a little tough love is only a phone call away.

These conversations continue to be essential to our development into the kind of women we aspire to be, while accepting aspects of the woman we’ve already become. We are open to, and interested in, a variety of topics and issues facing women today. We look forward to sharing our unique perspectives on how we navigate this modern world, while staying, basically, grounded. Join our conversation!

Meet Katie

I’m the sister who moved away thinking I would find a big life and career in what seemed like a city, but was really just a suburb of NC. I met my husband, Rich, six years ago on a blind date and now we have two little boys, 4 and 1.5. At 33, I’m still trying to figure things out – constantly seem like a walking contradiction, even to myself. I’m feminine, but not girly; not materialistic, but everything I DO like seems expensive. Love plants in my house, but they’re all dehydrated. I listen to Celine Dion when I run, but Jimi Hendrix when I cook. My husband and I love design and are planning to build another home in the somewhat near future in Black Mountain, NC where I hope to work on my green thumb and keep the kids outside all day, every day. I want a simple life, very integrated with nature, surrounded by beautiful things in my home, and delicious things in my belly.

Meet Hallie

I’m the fiercely independent sister who fell in love at 18 with her first boyfriend, changed colleges to be closer, and married him 11 years later. Together now for almost 17 years, we’ve built a life in the little state of Vermont with our dog, Karma. For the past 10 years, I have lived to work, finding immense satisfaction and growth building my career as Chief of Staff for a multi-passionate entrepreneur, while my husband built his career in law enforcement. We are often two ships passing in the night due to our schedules, so we make the most of the time we have together – kayaking, listening to old records while we drink cheap red wine and cook a Home Chef meal, or simply run errands together on the weekends (large coffees in hand, of course!). I love to read (recent favs include Untamed and The Buddha and the Badass). I could eat charcuterie plates every day. Fake plants, stacks of books, fresh cut flowers, and an unnecessary amount of throw pillows fill my home.

This year has been a year of self-discovery and growth thanks to a fantastic therapist and a kickass life coach. At 35, I’m embarking on a new season in my life and man, have I got goals! From home renovations, to kids, to real estate investing, to losing 50+ lbs, to upgrading my professional and casual wardrobe, to writing a book (or books!), to more everyday adventures in nature… and staying present through it all. I want a thriving career, a healthy mind and body, a family-centric home, and simple pleasures. If it’s worth it, then work for it.
